The River Narmada is many things to many people in Madhya Pradesh. For some, it is the spiritual anchor of the state, for others it’s a symbol of a raging debate – development vs ecology. For the last 33 years, this struggle between activists from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have been locked in a perpetual tussle against successive governments.
